At Neno Shifters, we believe that education and awareness are powerful tools in the fight against child marriage. Our awareness campaigns are designed to inform communities about the laws against child marriages and the harmful effects of certain cultural practices that perpetuate this issue.

Our Approach to Awareness Campaigns

We conduct regular awareness campaigns in villages throughout Neno District, focusing on areas with high rates of child marriage. Our campaigns involve:

  • Community Meetings: We organize gatherings where community members can learn about the legal framework protecting children from early marriage and the consequences of violating these laws.
  • Educational Workshops: We conduct workshops for parents, teachers, and community leaders to help them understand the importance of girls' education and the negative impacts of child marriage.
  • Youth Engagement: We involve young people in our campaigns, empowering them to become advocates for change within their communities.
  • Media Outreach: We use local radio stations and other media platforms to spread our message to a wider audience.

Impact of Our Awareness Campaigns

Since 2021, our awareness campaigns have reached over 3,250 community members across 45 villages in Neno District. The impact of these campaigns can be seen in the significant reduction in child marriages, from 10 cases in 2021 to 0 in 2025.

Our campaigns have also led to increased reporting of child marriage cases, as community members are now more aware of the legal implications and the channels through which they can report such cases.

Success Stories

One of our most successful awareness campaigns was conducted in Donda Village, where we worked closely with traditional leaders to address cultural practices that were contributing to child marriages. Through our intervention, the village chief and his council made a public declaration against child marriage and committed to enforcing laws that protect children.

In another village, our awareness campaign led to the formation of a community watch group that actively monitors and reports cases of child marriage. This group has been instrumental in preventing several potential child marriages.

Future Plans

Looking ahead, we plan to expand our awareness campaigns to reach more remote villages in Neno District. We also aim to develop more targeted campaigns that address specific cultural practices and beliefs that contribute to child marriage.

We are also exploring partnerships with other organizations and government agencies to strengthen our message and reach a wider audience.
